Women’s Designer Fashions Springing To Life

As spring draws closer, women’s designer fashion is at the forefront of beating away the winter chill with an assault of vibrant colours, statement fabrics and daring patterns, even if the weather doesn’t heat up, your wardrobe certainly will.

Flinging themselves into summer-spirit are 80s inspired Daisy dukes, these cut-offs are strutting onto the fashion scene teamed with stretch bandeaus (‘boob tubes’) for a skimpy, exposed look. There are also longer, smarter designers, adding turn ups rather than the rough-edged short, available in denim from Paul & Joe Sister, Sandro and Notify or in cotton by Michael by Michael Kors and Marc Jacobs. Or if you fancy something more risqu try a leather variety from Alexander McQueen, The Row and Chlo. The short is also popular in smart, high waisted designs produced by YMC (You Must Create), Tucker, Antik Batik and MIH Jeans.

Define your outfit and your style with the base of a statement t-shirt, some notable graphic designs have come from Full Circle and Mango, while ‘Paul’ by Paul Smith and ‘Something Else’ by Natalie Wood have used loud colours to ensure their tees are real eye-grabbers. Flattering scoop necks adorn many of this season’s fashion tees, as does the nautical influence of anchors and ropes, the mariner vibe is also picked up and produced in the classic Breton stripe tee, in red, blue and black from Evil Twin, DAY Birger et Mikkelsen, French Connection, Sessun and People Tree School of Fair Trade, designed by Emma Watson.

Whatever your colour, off the shoulder, oversized t-shirts are back in fashion, coming this spring from ‘Heti’s Colours’ by Heti Gervis, Seneca Rising and Karen Millen, team with a dark pair of leggings from Valentino, James Perse, Vero Moda and Rick Owens, tight-fitting skinny jeans from Free People, Juicy Couture, Rag & Bone and Malene Birger, or smarten the look with a neat pair of neutral chinos from Vince, 7 for All Mankind and Warehouse. Diesel, Levis and The Orphan’s Arms are bringing back the crop-top, while Asos and ‘Polo’ by Ralph Lauren are championing the tight-fitting polo shirt, perfect for a preppy cheerleader look when put with skorts or an A-line skirt and an American football college jacket available from Punkyfish and Topshop.

Layering outfits is perfectly facilitated by the range of loose, sleeveless vests on offer this spring, with drop armhole varieties from River Island, One Teaspoon producing oversized tank tops, Helmut Lang’s crossbacked jersey tank and the racer back vest from T by Alexander Wang and Won Hundred, for more luxurious vests look to silk this season with designs from Victoria Beckham Denim.

With spring’s chill still present, accessorising with a scarf is a popular choice, although the brave will attempt to bare more with this season’s return of the halter neck, never more flattering than when combined with the jumpsuit in the stunning designs of Alice by Temperley, Yves Saint Laurent and the vibrant stylings of the M Missoni collections.

This spring’s mischievous nature is perhaps best rounded off with another season essential of the playsuit. Available in a range of designs and materials from designers such as Stella McCartney, Etoile Isabel Marant and Halston Heritage; getting back to nature has never been so much fun.
