Upcoming exclusive 360 & PS3 games in 2011

With the world’s two most popular consoles, the Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360, constantly battling it out for top spot in the gaming world, Microsoft and Sony are being forced to come up with ever more tempting exclusives for the consoles. From casual sports games to high octane racing, absorbing adventure to hardcore war games, both manufacturers are offering some top titles this year.

Long term Xbox 360 fans will already be well aware of the exclusive release of the latest instalment of the now legendary Gears of War series, Gears of War 3. Game designers Epic Games have beefed up this new sequel with better online gameplay and a more strategic approach than previous episodes. Despite this, the game has succeeded in retaining the high energy shoot ‘em up experience Gears fans will know and love.

For some, overshadowing the anticipation of Gears for the Xbox is the veritable raft of exclusives hitting the streets for the Playstation 3. More than 20 titles were announced before the New Year even began and it is thought that number could double by the end of 2011. Many of these are dead certs for success as they add new instalments to already popular series, or even more cleverly, some overhaul PS1 and 2 classics to bring them into the 21st century.

Amongst the most anticipated are The Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Collection, classic masterpieces re-released in high definition and of course Killzone 3, which claims augmented playability with the incorporation of the Playstation Move functionality.

One of the Xbox 360′s biggest triumphs of last year had to be the launch of the Kinect, which saw out 2010 as one of the most wanted Christmas presents across the globe. This year, two exclusive games promise to use this groundbreaking technology to enhance and stimulate gamers like never before. Project Draco invites users to raise, train and fly a dragon using only the power of the body in this smooth, flight simulation adventure game.

Petrolheads will be pleased to hear that the Xbox crew are also bringing us the next instalment of the Forza series, with Forza 4 available in 2011. Known by some as Forza Kinect, the new Forza game does incorporate Kinect playability, but thankfully not in an invisible steering wheel, Joyride way. Instead, players will be able to inspect their rides from all angles and use certain motions to blast their opponents out of the field.

Playstations own 2010 innovation, the Playstation Move, also has plenty of new releases this year. An exciting addition is promised in the form of Playstation Move Heroes, where users can bowl, grenade and even whip their way across the worlds in the fight against evil.

Whilst Xbox exclusives seem to be less numerous than Playstation 3′s, that’s not the only apparent difference. Xbox seem to be more focussed on the casual Kinect based sports and casual games market, whilst Playstation are offering a good slice of gaming pie for everyone. It could be speculated that Xbox are aiming to entice some of the fitness gamers away from the world of the Wii. Or maybe it’s even more simple than that. Maybe they just ran out of ideas. So whether you’re playing an Xbox 360 or a PlayStation 3 this year, you can be guaranteed it’ll at least compar eto this year’s Nintendo Wii games.
