Three Steps To Powerful Marketing
If you are ever in a situation where you need to persuade or influence somebody, then this article is for you. I’ll show you some quick and easy steps to influence friends, strangers, or even your boss. And this is so sneaky that they’ll never know what hit them.
First, you need to get rapport. Rapport is that feeling you get when you feel comfortable with somebody. Like if you are traveling in China, and bump into somebody that went to your high school for example. You’d feel a special connection with this person.
This is actually pretty easy to do. Salespeople do it all the time. Just match the physical behavior of your target as closely as possible. Body language, how they are sitting or standing, how fast they talk, even the words they use. If they cross their legs, you do the same. This works great while sitting in a meeting at work.
Second, you need to elicit their criteria. What is important to them. Go as deep as you can by asking what is important about what is important. Like if they say they like watching baseball, you can ask what they like most about it. You are looking for vague words like relaxation, peace, friendship. Make sure not to put words in their mouth. Remember their exact words, and remember exactly how they said them.
Next, you need to figure out to show them that by doing what you want, they will achieve their criteria. If their criteria is to feel satisfied, and you want them to hire you (if this is a job interview,) then you can explain how the last person who hired you felt really satisfied when they realized what a great worker you are.
It’s best to get three or four words, and slowly use them throughout the conversation. And try to think of three or four different ways to describe your outcome, so they don’t think you’re being obnoxious. Just slowly start linking up their different criteria words to your outcome described in different ways.
One way to do this is to tell a story.Somebody you know of that is very similar the person you are with, who experienced the same thing they want to by doing what you’d like them to do. If you can describe your outcome three or four different ways, tell three or four different stories. They’ll think you are a great story teller, and will magically want to do whatever it is you set out to persuade them to do.
So here you have the simple three steps to persuasion and influence. Of course, like any other skill, this takes practice. And the more you practice, the better you’ll get. Once you get to a certain level, you’ll be amazed how well this stuff works.
