If you play golf, then you know it can be one of the most enjoyable, yet at the same time one of the most frustrating games to play. One hole you could be hitting everything perfectly, yet on the next the ball zigging and zagging between the rough and the fairway bunkers. What to do?
The secret to golf, as is the trick to any other game, is imagination and visualization. Ask any professional, and they’ll tell you that a gigantic part of their achievement is firm, consistent, visualization. When you visualize something, you are giving straight instructions to your subconscious mind on how you want to perform.
Think about a golf swing, a tee shot if you will. Do you think specially about what angle you are opening the club face, or how far back to go on the back swing? Do you identify exactly what incline with which the club face strikes the ball? Likely not.
If you are like most people, you have a unclear idea of what course you’d like the ball to go in. Then you swing away, and dream for the best. Unfortunately, this rarely works with any degree of reliability. Sometimes you get lucky, and hit one straight down the center, other times you don’t even bother looking for your ball.
So how do you tap into your authoritative subconscious mind to develop your game? Simple. Unite some authoritative statements, with some robust visualizations, and repeat them in a tranquil, almost drowsy state.
For example, if you’d like an enhanced tee-shot, you may say something like this:
I always drive my ball right down the core of the fairway. Hitting straight shots off the tee is normal for me. My friends are envious of my reliable tee shot.
While you are saying this, imagine your ball going right down the middle of the fairway. Envision hearing your friends talking about what a fantastic shot it is. Visualize how you feel when you hit such a wonderful shot.
The best time to say this to yourself, and employ your visualization is to get in a tranquil, almost slumbering state. Sit in a cozy chair, take a few deep breaths and seal your eyes. Picture seeing the numbers starting with ten, and going down to one. When you get to one, take a number of yawning breaths, and just say “relax” to yourself softly.
Then start to gradually and silently repeat your account to yourself, while seeing the ball go straight down the core.
If you do this two or three times a day for a week or two, you will observe some spectacular improvements in your tee shot. After you’ve got that part of your game down, you can work on your fairway shots, you short game, your putting, and every other portion of the game.
