How Cigar Reviews Can Help Make A Smart Purchase

by Shane McConnell

All the finer things in life are packed with intricate details, and most require a trained eye or palate to truly enjoy. Cigars are one of these things, along with things like fine foods. One may have heard the terms "robust" and "complex" when discussing the taste of one of these smokes, but has had no example with which to associate them. Reading cigar reviews can help a person to learn about them as well as nurture the growth of the ability to review them yourself.

COA America, for example, is a fairly renowned brand, and there is much to learn about their products. At first glance, the smoker will notice that it has two separate wrappers--the first is a leaf from Connecticut, known as the broadleaf Maduro, and it is intertwined with some Connecticut shade-grown. These make for an aesthetically pleasing pinstripe pattern--aesthetics are important.

The filler is also something about which connoisseurs want to know. Some cigars use all the same tobacco inside while others blend different leaves together to achieve a certain flavor and/or consistency. In this case, it is filled with a blend of tobaccos from America, Nicaragua, Italy, and the Dominican Republic. The outer binding of the tobacco is Brazilian. Needless to say, this is a fairly fancy blend.

These factors are what contribute to the unique taste of each different brand's product. By learning to taste the subtle notes and deciding what you do and do not like, a person can read cigar reviews in order to look for these tastes and decide whether or not it will be enjoyable prior to purchasing. This particular smoke is medium- to full-bodied in flavor. It boasts notes of cedar, leather, and almond.

Believe it or not, size is often a factor. A review will usually be helpful in letting a person know what lengths and gauges are available for certain types of cigars. COA America offers five sizes. The Constitution is the largest, measuring in at seven inches long and having a 50-ring diameter. One can even decide to go as small as the Potomac, though, which is only five inches long.

Those who are not very familiar with the hobby of cigar smoking may have never known that there were so many factors that account for a good smoke. Reading cigar reviews can help you make the right decisions before you buy, ensuring that you will be happy with your purchase. In addition, this is an easy way to become familiar with the terminology, and soon anyone can fit in at the classiest cigar lounges around!
