Dog Trainer Techniques To Socialize Your Dog
If you are now the mommy or daddy to a new puppy, you simply must socialize your dog as soon as you feasibly can do so. This will see to it that your pet doesn’t grow into an angry, aggressive dog, and that he is well adjusted in general. If you are a puppy owner, you’re also a dog trainer, so you’ll want to follow this list of “dos” and “don’ts” as you go along.
Of course what you must know is the list of dos in order to socialize your puppy. For instance, you need to be sure that when you introduce your dog to someone or something new, you do it pleasantly. You’ll want your pet to associate training with positive time with you. You want your puppy to desire this time, not dread it, and not to be afraid.
Make perfectly sure that early on, you include a variety of friends, people from all stripes so to speak. Men, children, boys, women…old people, young…This diversified approach will allow them to adjust well to a variety of people later in life. You also want to make sure that the dogs they socialize with are friendly, and healthy. You want to have happy dogs to be your pet’s friends.
The last point, to be a good dog trainer, you want your puppy to be exposed to a variety of places, too. Take your dog out to a variety of shops and parks, schools and houses. This in turn will also expose them to more and more people and other pets along the way, but you want to build confidence in your dog with all these new experiences early on.
Once you have read the “dos” list, here are the things you don’t want to do to socialize your pet. Of course, you shouldn’t put off socializing your puppy too long. If you hesitate on this note, then you’ll only make it more difficult to overcome the sheltered life he’s used to. Expose them in due time, but begin soon.
There is another no-no that you don’t want to do: place your pet near any other pets that you can’t personally vouch for. If you don’t know a dog’s character, then you shouldn’t expose your dog to them. One attack is all it takes to permanently change your dog.
If your puppy shows signs he’s afraid, then you don’t want to inadvertently reward the behavior by soothing them with reassuring words and stroking. Later down the road, this may develop into biting, which isn’t something that you want to be responsible for.
Lastly, a dog trainer must remain patient during training. Think of it as a chance where you can either succeed or fail in one fell swoop – by rushing your dog through a lesson, or being impatient, you’ll undo a lot of hard work. You want them to go along at their own pace, as they see fit. This will really turn out to be the best practice for your training.
