Be Familiar with Dog Skin Problems

Dogs, regardless of their breed, experience the different kinds of dog skin problems. As such you should become more vigilant when it comes to knowing about them so you can better protect your pet’s health. If you think that these skin problems cannot go skin deep then you are mistaken. If they are not treated promptly, they can infect the dog’s blood as well.

Among the dog skin problems that exist these days are allergies. There are a lot of dogs that are inflicted with allergies and among those suffer from allergens as well as food restrictions. Because of this, you should exercise due caution when it comes to picking the food you feed your pets. It would also be great if you can keep your home clean to prevent the collection of dust mites.

You can also count in fleas as among the biggest source of dog skin problems. They reside on the skin of our dogs and does not grow content with that. They also feed right on the dog’s blood and when they do, their saliva leaves behind an irritation right on the dog’s skin. As a result it becomes too itchy that the poor dog has to scratch on it repeatedly.

Ear mites are also a common type of parasite that causes skin problems for dogs. What it does is enter right through your dog’s ears and then reside inside of them. They are known to look like coffee grinds and they can also spread to other parts of the dog’s body. They can be quite dangerous to leave untreated because they can burrow deep into your dog’s ear canal. Usually, medications are being prescribed to treat them.

Gray spots are also among the telling signs of dog skin problems. Dogs who suddenly have the appearance of dots on their skin might currently be suffering from ticks. Just like fleas, these ticks are also known to feed on the blood of your dog. In the long run, they might be the cause for the dog to have a Lyme disease which can enlarge the lymph nodes of your pet.

Even lice are known to cause dog skin problems. Canine lice can be very small and transparent that they would not be seen by the naked eyes. However, once seen they appear to be flattened insects. Because of their wings, they can easily transfer from one host to another which is why dogs often get them as they come in contact with other dogs that already have canine lice.

Dog skin problems are also rounded up with fungal infections. Usually, a parasite like ringworn is behind such problems. You would know that your dog is suffering from fungi infection if they exhibit dry flaky skin. Your pet’s skin would also appear to be scaly and redness around the infected area will appear.

To be free from dog skin problems, make sure you bring your dog to the vet regularly. You should also keep your home clean to avoid attracting parasites that might harm everyone in the household including your dogs.
